Dear Mr Postman,

I would like to complain.

We sell fresh cinnamon online to customers around the world.  We send our cinnamon to customers in the United States by airmail from England.  You say that one should allow five to seven working days.

Everything was working fine until the run-up to Christmas 2014, when we started getting complaints about late delivery in the US.  It is hard to explain why the USPS can take a month or more to deliver.  Some customers weren’t satisfied and asked for replacements, which we sent out at our cost.  We’re talking quite big numbers here and we’re not a big business.

You would have thought that the service would improve after the Christmas rush, but no.  Our record is a delivery that was sent out on 5 January and arrived on 10 March.  Yup, more than two months.  Obviously we had to send out a replacement for that one which, ironically, arrived on the same day as the original order. Our customer complaints have got fewer, so we guess that the service is improving.

But it’s a rubbish service.  We are having to add a Fedex delivery option which is expensive, and will put off some of our customers, but at least it’s reliable and trackable.

So please, Mr Postman, get with the beat.  Otherwise Amazon and the courier companies will totally trash you.

With best wishes,

Rupert
